Coding with Kids (info-seattle@codingwithkids.com)

Coder’s Ladder experience: Level 1
Prerequisites: None

In the Beginner Game Development camp, our tech-savvy instructors will introduce students to the core coding concepts at the heart of computer science. They will guide small groups of campers in creating an interactive story and/or a game of their own using the block-based, online programming language Scratch. Children come to camp with a variety of backgrounds and beginner skill levels (from no experience to self-study of Scratch to some previous exposure to coding), so campers receive personalized instruction and progress at a pace that ensures they're appropriately challenged. Camps are also a great opportunity to meet and learn from new friends! At the conclusion of the camp, children will be able to share projects with family and friends and continue programming at home with their Coding with Kids Scratch account.

Coding with Kids is a computer programming academy for grades K-12. Our programs advance young coders from the very beginnings all the way to the mastery of computer science and software development.

Tap into your imagination with tens of thousands of LEGO®! Build engineer-designed projects such as Boats, Snowmobiles, Catapults, and Merry-Go-Rounds. Then use special pieces to create your own unique design! New and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. There is no prerequisite for this course.

Play-Well TEKnologies provides project-based programs designed to teach principles and methods of engineering to children, ages 5 - 14, using LEGO®. Our curriculum is designed by engineers, building on the math and science skills students learn during the school year. Utilizing over 100,000 pieces of LEGO® for each class, we engage our students in solving real-world engineering challenges that explore concepts in physics, architecture, and engineering. Our goal is to have our students foster a greater appreciation of how things work, and encourage the qualities of inquisitiveness, self-reliance, and self-confidence in children. We have been growing future engineers since 1997.

Do you know how to work your camera beyond automatic mode? Are you eager to get out and capture more stunning places with other creative people? If so, then you’re in the right camp! During this week your group of experienced photographers (those who have taken a high school photography class or completed the Beginning Photography Camp) will travel around the area to capture more sights and scenes. Campers will need to bring their own cameras and equipment along for the ride each day as they head to the water, traverse downtown, or capture the story behind unique buildings.

Leanne Bartz teaches Photography along with other Digital Arts at Bear Creek. She graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a B.A. in Studio Art. She loves to help people discover and cultivate their passions in the digital world. When she’s not helping others to develop their own skills and portfolios, she can be found working on her own while also frolicking around Seattle. Her goal is for each student to figure out how to best capture their own adventure.
