Is your child curious about robots? Loves animation? TechVenture’s Code Camp Jr. provides young children with a fun introduction to technology. Using Scratch Jr, children learn to program their own interactive stories on a tablet computer. Taking it a step further, children partner together to work with Wonder’s Robots, programming their bots to put on a dance party, navigate paths and more. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively. Girls and boys love the thrill of coding and controlling their environment. Kids don't spend the whole time plugged in. Engaging unplugged activities get kid’s bodies moving too.

TechVenture Kids runs after school clubs and camps through the breaks. We build on kids’ natural curiosity & affinity for technology & game play, we constructively direct their motivation by offering short, flexible lessons and instructor-led demonstrations & class participation; followed by longer blocks of practice (hands on coding) on projects created with age, experience level in mind. Our emphasis is the importance of good story telling, logical narratives and communication skills. We encourage club members to mentor & share with others.

Have fun! Make new friends! Exercise your imagination and develop your singing, dancing and acting skills! During this exciting week, campers will act out a scene, create a character, become a mime, and try out improv. Each day will be filled with games and activities that will challenge you as you take your theater skills to the next level. This year’s camp will include a theater makeup workshop! Bring your enthusiasm, your imagination and your willingness to give it a try!

*Note: Each year’s camp is unique for campers that are returning.

Julie Gere spent many years in the performing arts (music, dance, drama) before she began teaching. For over 20 years she has enjoyed working with young actors teaching them singing, dancing and acting. She has found that students not only grow in their theatre skills, but in their problem-solving, positive risk-taking and collaboration skills. Most importantly she has seen students gain a level of confidence that benefits them throughout their lives. Bringing together a love for theatre, a passion for children, and a background in teaching, Mrs. Gere looks forward to a week of active, challenging and creative summer theatre camp fun!

Chess Wizards (lesia@chesswizards.com)

Join us this summer for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes. You'll improve your chess skills, meet new friends, and work out your most powerful muscle - your brain! Our camps include fun team chess games (like bughouse), recess time (of course), snacks, tournaments, and puzzles. Each camper receives a T-shirt, trophy, and puzzle folder. Unleash your brain power and spend part of your vacation with Chess Wizards!

Chess Wizards offers summer and holiday vacation camps for children 6-12. As much as we love chess and champion it’s cognitive and character benefits, we don’t believe in asking an 8 year-old to stay inside for 3 or 6 hours and just play chess during their vacation. We’ve developed an interactive day-camp format which includes all kinds of activities to keep kids both physically and mentally engaged during their time with us. Team chess games, puzzles, skill-building, and team and individual physical games are just some of the ways we integrate the whole person into our camp activities. A sample day might include exploration of a technical chess concept, fun group challenges which hone specific chess thinking patterns, a mini-tournament, capture-the-flag, and blob tag. Or creating and designing your own chess piece to be used in a practice game with your new friends. After all, it’s camp… we want our students to make memories that they’ll carry with them through the upcoming school year and beyond.
