Jenn McDonough, Early Middle School and Middle School Division Head

Dear Early Middle School and Middle School Parents,

I am grateful for the rest, rejuvenation, and adventure that comes with the slower pace of summer! It is such a lovely time to spend as a family, read books, play, and enjoy the friendships of others. I know that students will come back to school ready to grow in relationship and understanding of what it means to live a life filled with wisdom, compassion, and courage.

Though the teachers are not in the hallways right now, they have thoughtfully and intentionally planned for the 2019 – 2020 school year. We have spent time in prayer as we consider the Lord’s work and our role in being used by Him. We are eager to meet you and get to know you more throughout the upcoming school year. Thank you for choosing Bear Creek and entrusting us with the care and nurture of your children during the school day.

This communication details a few items for consideration as you make summer plans and prepare for the coming school year; it is organized in three sections:

  1. For all students in grade 5-8
  2. Just for Early Middle School students, and
  3. Just for Middle School students.

Both Early Middle School and Middle School

Summer Camp Register for Summer Camp online. Space is still available in some sessions.

School Supplies Supply lists are posted on our website.

School Uniforms Students wear dress uniforms on Mondays (grades 7-12 only) and Tuesdays (grades K-12). Casual uniforms are worn on all other days unless specifically noted. All dress uniform sweaters, pants, and skirts must be purchased through DENNIS Uniform. See the School Uniforms page for ordering information and additional details. On Wednesday, August 7, Bear Creek will host both new and used uniform sales at the Upper School (see School Calendar).

Bus Service Bellevue/Kirkland communities are served with round trip, morning-only, and afternoon-only options. Monthly payment option available. See Bus Service for schedules and fees and to sign up.

Back-to-School Registration Due August 8 In mid-July, you will receive access to the Parent Portal using your Bear Creek credentials, and all parents will be sent a Back-to-School Registration email with detailed instructions for reviewing and updating your Household Profile; completing the Back-to-School Registration policy form; and printing, signing, and submitting a few forms. Most of our school waivers are signed online as part of Back-to-School Registration. Included with Back-to-School Registration, you will find information about school health and immunization requirements, field trips, publicity, computer and internet use. All online and printed pieces are due Thursday, August 8.

Note regarding email addresses: Parents should review their Profiles in July when the Back-to-School Registration email is received. Please ensure your child (grades 5-12) has a unique email address listed in your Profile. Additionally, please ensure that each parent has a unique email address. Email addresses may not be shared by family members.

Fall Sports Students in grades 6-8 may participate in Middle School sports. Parents of new students may register online after they receive the Back-to-School Registration email. The registration deadline is August 8. Middle School fall sports include boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, and girls volleyball. Practices begin on September 3. Don't forget that a sports physical is required to participate.

Inside Bear Creek As part of your orientation to Bear Creek, please plan to join Patrick Carruth, President and Headmaster, and Debbie Marchione, Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Engagement, at Inside Bear Creek on October 2 at 6:30 p.m. This gathering will provide you with important practical information about how to get involved in the Bear Creek community as a parent, an understanding of how the school functions beyond the classrooms, and an opportunity to connect with other new families. Look for an email in August with more details.
