Dear Parents,

It was great to see so many parents at our new preschool family orientation sessions last month. Most of the information we distributed can also be found on the MyBC/Parents page on our school website; no login is required. Look on the "Parent Orientation" tab and expand the sections for New Families and Preschool to find the following:

  • Certificate of Immunization Status
  • Mark Your Calendar and Yearly Planner
  • Contact Numbers and Emails
  • Tips for Transitioning to Preschool
  • Preschool: A Practical Primer
  • Preschool Supply List

New Parent Welcome and Orientation If you did not attend orientation in May, I hope you will RSVP for the P4/P5 event at 9:30 a.m. or P3 event at 10:30 a.m. and plan to attend on Wednesday, August 21. At orientation, you will receive a packet with the information listed above and more, plus you will have time to ask questions as we get to know one another.

Cubs Club This optional preschool program lengthens the school day by forty-five minutes; it runs from 11:45 p.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Class sizes are limited, and space is offered in each session on a first come, first served basis. Enrollees beyond capacities listed will be placed on a wait list. Registration opens on July 1, but you may learn more about the program and see the 2019 – 2020 offerings by visiting the Cubs Club page.

Summer Camp Summer Camp is underway, but it is not too late to sign up for some July and August camps, if space is available. Check out all the summer camp offerings at www.tbcs.org/summer and enroll your son or daughter today! All our camps are open to the general public, and we welcome sign-ups from students ages 3 and up, so feel free to invite your child's friends and neighbors to sign up.

Summer Play Dates Join the fun! Meet new friends at our summer play dates on the Valley Campus playground. Snacks and refreshments provided.

Parent Rep/Mentor Mom During the summer and throughout the year, you may contact one of these parent volunteers who will help answer questions about our Preschool program. These moms are familiar with our program and are a great resource. Recently, you should have received a welcome email from one of them introducing herself to you.

Back-to-School Registration Due August 8 In mid-July you will receive access to the Parent Portal using your Bear Creek credentials, and all parents will be sent a Back-to-School Registration email with detailed instructions for reviewing and updating your Household Profile; completing the Back-to-School Registration policy form; and printing, signing, and submitting a few forms. Most of our school waivers are signed online as part of Back-to-School Registration. Included with Back-to-School Registration, you will find information about school health and immunization requirements, field trips, and publicity.

When creating your Household Profile, it is not necessary to add an email address for Preschool students. Teachers will only email the parents. Additionally, please ensure that each parent has a unique email address. Email addresses may not be shared by family members. All online and printed Back-to-School Registration forms are due Thursday, August 8.

Welcome We are excited to announce that Rachael Urban will be the new Preschool Division Head next fall. Rachael is well-equipped for work in preschool. She has a B.A. in elementary education from Pacific Lutheran University and an M.A. in education and science from Nova Southeastern University. Rachael has worked at Bear Creek for 14 years and taught sixth grade, first grade, and preschool. Many of you know her from her role in the Office of Admissions where she has served for the past several years. She has a deep love for young children and for our preschool program and is a gifted educator. I will be moving to a new role in Lower School administration, so I will still get to see many of you when you continue your Bear Creek journey into kindergarten!

We are grateful to have so many new families joining the Bear Creek community and are looking forward to getting to know your children in the fall. I’m praying for each of our new students, that over the next few months God would prepare their hearts and minds for a wonderful year of learning, growth, and inspiration.

Although the Preschool office is closed for the summer, you may email Rachael (rurban@tbcs.org) if you have any questions. Regular office hours resume after Labor Day on Tuesday, September 3.

Have a wonderful summer!

Tressa Parker
