Preschool Update: Entering Step Two - September 2020

Rachael Urban, Preschool Division Head

Dear Parents,

Backpacks, sweaters, crayons, fall leaves, and cooler weather all make me think of September and the start of a brand new school year! We have had a wonderful start to the year with our first week of preschool. Both in-person and remote students are diving into school routines. As one of our three-year-old students headed home from school she cried because she didn’t want to leave. That makes our hearts happy!

As Headmaster Patrick Carruth shared in his email yesterday, we are moving to Step Two of our Step Start Plan, which means that beginning Monday, September 21, we will follow the standard preschool schedule. Of course, you are still welcome to have your child continue learning remotely as much or as little as is appropriate for your family.

Step Two Schedule

Step Two for preschool is our normal schedule although we are still unable to offer Cubs Club. We will let you know when we open Cubs Club registration.

Preschool students will go outside once a day for some fresh air and the opportunity to move their bodies. We are mindful of air quality hazards with the recent wildfire smoke and may choose to keep students indoors if conditions warrant. Two classes have recess at the same time but use different parts of the playground so they remain in their class cohorts. Students may remove their masks when they are outside. We recommend that students learning remotely use scheduled recess times to take a break from the screen, have a snack, and get some fresh air in order to keep their brains and bodies healthy.

Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders

Drop off and pick up are going really well! Thanks for all your help in making this happen smoothly. For drop off, parents are welcome to walk their child to the door of the class. We ask that parents not enter the classroom at this time and to be mindful of social distancing with other families. When departing, please exit by using the side gate instead of the main gate to keep that area open for families arriving on campus with their children. Families are welcome to drop off their children anytime between 8:30 a.m. ‒ 9:00 a.m.

Pick up will begin at 11:30 a.m. Stay in your vehicle and pull forward as the line moves. Please continue to have your child’s name on your car dashboard so we can match your car with your child. We cannot buckle your child into the vehicle so feel free to pull into an empty parking spot to buckle him/her in properly. Or if there is a lull in the carpool line-up you may carefully get out of the car and buckle your child in before moving forward. Please refer to the website for more information.
