Device Advice
Recommendations
Note: Students in preschool – grade 8 do not bring devices to school, and students in grades 9 – 12 are issued Microsoft Surface Pro devices in August (if they haven't already received).
If it happens to be time for your family to purchase a new device, Bear Creek's IT Department would like to pass along the following recommendations (not requirements) as you decide how best to enable your family's digital learning experience with Bear Creek.
- We highly recommend using a Windows device for your children's schooling. Because Bear Creek is operating with Microsoft 365 and Teams as our primary modes of digital learning, your children will encounter the best experience when also using a Windows device. Our IT department is also most able to render quick support for these devices.
- Apple devices are our second tier recommendation. Full operating systems and the ability to run all Microsoft 365 products will ensure a good experience for digital learning. That being said, there are differences between the Windows and Apple versions of the Microsoft tools and while our IT department will endeavor to support you as best we can, the experience will not be optimized as it is on Windows devices.
- Chromebooks, netbooks, and other Android devices are not recommended for digital learning. The Microsoft 365 and Teams experience is reduced, and the learning experience will not mirror that intended by the teachers. Similarly, support is reduced for these devices due to the limitation of the web-based systems.
Face Coverings
Beginning March 12, face coverings are optional inside school buildings. Masks are not required outdoors. See these resources provided by our counselors which may be helpful to your family as you navigate the changing COVID-19 school regulations.
