A Guide to Growing Up

Families with children in grades 4 – 6 are invited to attend A Boy’s/Girl’s Guide to Growing Up. Presented by Bear Creek’s health team, these gender-separated classes provide age-appropriate information about the how, when, and why of puberty and offer parents helpful tools for guiding conversations at home. This class is also open to families of newly enrolled students, potential students, or friends who are interested in the content provided with a Christian worldview.

Each class will be capped at 35 parent/child pairs. Registration is $30 per child to cover the cost of materials.

Mother/Daughter Health Class

Taught by Lela Powell, BSN, RN, and Mary Thompson, BSN, RN. Only one parent, preferably mom or adult female relative, per child should attend. Register below.

Class Objectives

Understand normal growth and development, including the physical and emotional changes that happen during puberty
Learn about the anatomy and physiology of the human reproductive system and human reproduction
Learn about the menstrual cycle, what to expect during a period, and how to manage it
Explain how to maintain a healthy body through personal hygiene, healthy living, and making good choices
Assist parents in communicating the right information to their children as they enter puberty
