Girls Golf Quick Facts
Fees
Registration Fee: $350 + $160 for a uniform polo, uniform hat, custom 1/4-zip pullover, and a team T-shirt. Girls are responsible for their own uniform skirt/shorts/pants. Varsity players must purchase ($185) or rent ($55) a Bear Creek golf bag (see form on this page).
Additional Costs: Include gear, equipment, any team-related trips and activities (see below)
Practice and Game Schedule
The girls golf team schedules practices and matches Mondays – Thursdays. Practices are scheduled from 3:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. at The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge. The team generally schedules seven regular season matches, which are played after school. Home matches are played at The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge. Matches usually involve early dismissals from class. See Girls Golf Calendar (above).
Transportation
Transportation is not provided for practices. For away matches outside Redmond, round trip transportation is available, though players may make their own arrangements.
Uniform, Gear, and Equipment
Required equipment includes a set of clubs, balls, and tees. For all practices and matches, players must wear golf attire which is often a collared shirt and shorts, skirt, or pants (not jeans).
During matches, players wear uniform polos and hats which are ordered at the beginning of the season (included in registration fee). Players will continue to wear the same hat the following year.
Recommended gear includes a towel, golf shoes, and golf umbrella. Additionally, there are several optional items that players may find helpful including a rangefinder, hand warmers, pushcart, rain jacket, rain gloves, and rain shoes. Optional gear includes rain pants/jacket and black warm-up pants. Complete the gear size and optional gear order forms (see elsewhere on page) to ensure the correct sizes are available.
Finally, all match-ready varsity players must rent or purchase a Bear Creek golf bag (see above). Junior varsity players may use their own golf bags.
How Matches are Played
In the Emerald Sound Conference, six players are involved in a varsity match of nine holes, and the best four Stableford scores are counted against the other schools. Players not involved in a varsity match will usually play a full 9 holes at Redmond Ridge.
Playoffs
To advance to the Conference Tournament, players must shoot a qualifying score during a regular season match. A qualifying score is 15 Stableford points. At many courses, that would be shooting 56 or less. The Conference, District, and State tournaments are played in the month of May.
Out of Season Activities
Several golf opportunities are available throughout the summer. Coaches host tee times dependent on course availability. Interested players should contact Assistant Coach Lindy Broyles at lbroyles@tbcs.org. Bear Creek also promotes and encourages players to continue to play, take lessons, and participate in tournaments out of season through the various programs in the region. Everyone should join the Youth on Course membership program where juniors aged 6 – 18 can pay $5 per round at participating courses after a yearly membership fee of $20. Players can also take advantage of golf specific exercise plans in the fitness center.
