2022 State Track & Field

The 2022 WIAA 1A State Track & Field Championships were held in Cheney, WA, May 26 – 28, and featured the top competitors from Washington. On Friday, May 27, Braelyn first took the gold in the long jump, with a school record-breaking jump (and personal best) of 18-7½. On Saturday, May 28, Braelyn came up with blue ribbon efforts in the 100m with a time of 12.39, the 300m hurdles with a time of 45.20, and to secure the clean sweep (athletes are only allowed to qualify and compete in a maximum of four events), the 200m with a time of 25.58. What a performance!

Three other Grizzlies competed in the Track & Field State Championships including sophomores William Hartshorn and Quinn Smith and freshman Austin Chu. William advanced to the finals in the 800m race and ran a 1:59.8 on Saturday which was good enough for an eighth-place finish. Austin raced at State in the 400m, the only freshman in the field. Although Austin did not qualify for the finals, he ran a fantastic race finishing with a time of 55.47. Quinn qualified in the javelin and had a great Saturday! She qualified for the finals and threw 105-7 for a sixth-place medal. All final results can be found on the WIAA State Track & Field Meet page.
