Congratulations to our varsity girls golf team, our varsity boys golf team, and sophomore Ryder Odem on their WIAA 2022 1A State Golf Championships at Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane!
The State Championship tournaments featured the top 60 boys golfers and top 60 girls golfers in the 1A classification and was played on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 and 25. The girls team was represented by senior Beatrice Archer, junior Ros Nordberg, and sophomore Emma Peterson in the two-day tournament. Beatrice finished the tournament with a third-place medal after rounds of 84 and 87 and total score of 171. Ros finished with a 97/92/189, and Emma was right behind her, shooting a 103/87/190. Both Ros and Emma made up huge ground in day 2 and finished in eleventh and thirteenth place, respectively. Together, the girls racked up 96.5 team points beating out second-place finisher Charles Wright Academy by 11 points.
The Bear Creek boys team was represented by senior Aaron Moore, juniors Giap Do and Jack Yang, sophomore Ryder Odem, and freshman Rhett Nordberg. On the first day of the tournament, Ryder had a day for the ages finishing atop the leaderboard with an incredible six under, 65. If that wasn’t enough, the remaining four boys all came in with great rounds placing them all in the top 15. On day two, Ryder finished with a 75 for a total score of 140 which put him in a tie for the lead. He headed back out onto the course for a sudden death tiebreaker and won the first hole earning himself medalist honors, a first-place blue ribbon, and an individual State title! Giap finished the day in third place with a 72/73/145 followed by Aaron in fifth place with a 76/75/151, Rhett with a 79/80/159, and Jack with a 80/85/165. Together, the team amassed a whopping 173 team points to win the State Championship.
