2026 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Seven works by six Upper School students were recognized in the 2026 West Region-At-Large Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have an impressive legacy dating back to 1923 and a noteworthy roster of past winners, including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, and Joyce Carol Oates. This year, Bear Creek students were honored with three Gold Keys, one Silver Key, and three Honorable Mentions. Congratulations!

  • Vanity, digital painting, drawing and collage by Crystal Zhu, junior – Honorable Mention
  • Color Cards, graphic design by Kate Hysom, senior – Honorable Mention
  • Innocence for Sale, drawing by Joyce Xu, sophomore – Gold Key

Writing Awards

  • Floating Free, critical essay by Meiling Hou, junior – Honorable Mention
  • Once an Evening, Twice an Evening, short story by Joyce Xu, sophomore – Gold Key
  • Whitewashed, poetry by Linnea Psiaki, junior – Gold Key
