Introduction

Bear Creek’s Learning Together Fall 2020 plan emphasizes the following guiding principles: honoring our mission, ensuring our health, returning to campus, and nurturing our community. These guiding principles have served as the backbone of our plan, ensuring that we provide a high quality Christian liberal arts education, prioritize the health and safety of our community, and remain a nurturing environment and supportive community.

This plan is the culmination of several months of planning in concert with guidelines from local, regional, and national governmental and health authorities. In this plan we have:

  • Adopted new health and safety policies and procedures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission and spread in our community, which include screening, entry, hygiene, and distancing protocols. The school has also purchased supplies and made campus enhancements to our facilities and grounds to facilitate implementation of the health and safety guidelines.
  • Invested significantly in hardware, software, and training so the school can provide a remote learning experience that is similar to the curriculum and instruction that students receive on campus, ensuring a high quality experience for families who choose to have students learn from home or in case the school is required to close.
  • Established, with Division Heads, Deans, and the Athletics Director, student life and co-curricular processes, programs, additional resources, to steward and develop the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of our students in both on-campus and online scenarios.
  • Developed innovative practices to continue to nurture this wonderful community and communicate frequently and well.

Each decision articulated in the plan was made after much reflection, thought, intentionality, and prayer. We also realize that as conditions change with the pandemic, additional decisions will have to be made and changed. We will continue to communicate changes and please also feel free to direct questions to your Division Head, attend a Town Hall meeting with senior administration, or check our website. With each step in this shifting journey that we take together, we remain fixed to the One who remains constant throughout – Christ Jesus, “the Lord Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come” (Rev 4:8).
