10:00 a.m.  – 11:00 a.m.: Plenary Session 1

Neoclassical Education

This session provides an overview of the philosophy of classical education and the ways in which it can be re-interpreted for the twenty-first century. We will cover the distinctives of classical education, the benefits to the student, the three stages of classical learning (grammar, logic, rhetoric), the subjects taught in each stage, and the overall goals of classical education (teaching students the pattern of learning so that they can continue to exercise it for the rest of their lives). Also discusses the place of delight-led learning and the “vocations” within the classical model.

11:00 a.m.  – 11:15 a.m.: Morning Break

11:15 a.m.  – 12:15 p.m.: Plenary Session 2

The Well-Trained Mind: Academic Excellence Through Classical Education

This session provides a pedagogical review highlighting the differences between the three stages of classical learning. We will talk about the importance of memorization in the early years, critical thinking and logic in the middle years, finally pulling it all together in the upper school years.

A delicious lunch will be provided to all conference attendees (vegan and gluten-free options).
