Meet Your ASB Secretary

The Associated Student Body Council (ASB) Student Council consists of four intelligent, focused, and driven young leaders. While the idea of the ASB council might sound intimidating, or the people who have filled these positions for the 2020 – 2021 school year may seem unreachable, I can attest firsthand that this is far from the truth. Before interviewing ASB secretary Lily Parker, I have to admit, I was feeling the nervous butterfly swarm. But instantly, I was greeted by a smiling face and many kind questions about my day. This immediately put me at ease, and I knew that I had nothing to be nervous about. It was obvious to me that Lily, and people like her, are one of God’s many gifts to Bear Creek.

Lily is a senior at Bear Creek, and also occupies the essential ASB secretary role. But what is the job of the ASB secretary? Lily told me, “The secretary’s role is involved with the internal communication. Everyone needs to be on the same page, because if the ASB itself is not communicating well, then we’re not going to be able to communicate well with the student body.” She went on to comment about all the notes, plans, and ideas she has to keep track of. But “I read the description, and it was literally me. I love taking notes, being organized, communicating, and making sure everyone is accountable."

ASB isn’t the only activity Lily has been involved with at Bear Creek. She also plays volleyball and was both a leader in the Youth for University Political Preparedness (YUPP) club and a Hildegard House leader. Furthermore, Lily is anything but new to the Bear Creek community. She started her education officially in preschool but was hanging around the school even before then. She told me that Bear Creek really is her second home. Her involvement and leadership in the Bear Creek community are simply a reflection of the pride and love she feels for the school. With all the connections and contributions Lily has made to this school, Bear Creek certainly wouldn’t be the same without her.

The recurring theme in Lily’s words was both the idea and her appreciation of community, specifically of that at Bear Creek. Whether it is with her friends, in her House, her grade, or even Bear Creek in general, Lily has learned that being a leader means being active in communities. As a person who is naturally more comfortable in smaller groups, she said she wondered about the ever-so-present question thought and spoken throughout the world: “How do I make my voice heard?” This question makes us examine ourselves and pinpoint the impact we want to make. It inspires us to strive to be the best we can be. With a community that fosters love and building each other up, one Lily and the ASB have been focused on cultivating, we certainly are blessed.

Finally, Lily provided her three words that described her time at Bear Creek: all-encompassing, community, and growth.

Lily, thank you for being the bright, shining star that you are and for your incredible influence on our Bear Creek community.
