During the week of October 31 – November 4, 2022, The Bear Creek School’s chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) sponsored a food drive for Hopelink, and it was a huge success.

Putting compassion into action, Bear Creek students collected 18,337 cans/boxes of food to help our local community, weighing in at six tons (11,999 pounds)! The warehouse manager at Hopelink said that Bear Creek's delivery, which filled a van, a trailer, and a school bus, was "twice the size of any previous donation" ever received at their Kirkland center.

  • Upper School students donated a total of 12,591 items.
  • Middle School students donated a total of 2,802 items.
  • Lower School students donated a total of 2,599 items.
  • Preschool students donated a total of 354 items.

The National Honor Society is so grateful for the school community's generosity and participation in this annual event. Faith Foster, Hopelink's Community Engagement Program Manager, echoed, "Each and every donation is always most appreciated, no matter the size. But this is quite special. Thank you so much for all your support!"

NHS members posted signs and placed bins near all the classroom doors and then collected the donations with the help of grade-level volunteers and delivered the items to Hopelink’s facility in Kirkland.

In order to encourage donations, the NHS sponsored a contest to see which House and/or class could bring in the most items per capita. In the Upper School, Meitner House led the way delivering 3,827 items (74 items per student) to help the disadvantaged people on the Eastside. There was enthusiastic participation from all grades: preschool through grade 12.
