- The Teenage Years
During the week of November 4 – 8, 2024, The Bear Creek School’s chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) sponsored a food drive for Hopelink, and it was a huge success!
Putting compassion into action, Bear Creek students collected 14,299 cans/boxes of food to help our local community, weighing in at 5-½ tons (10,998 pounds) and surpassing last year's collection by over 1,000 items and 893 pounds! Zach, the warehouse manager at Hopelink said that Bear Creek's delivery, which filled a U-Haul truck three times, continues to be the single largest drive that they have all year long and provides so much food for the people in need, just in time for the holidays.
- Upper School students donated a total of 8,472 items.
- Middle School students donated a total of 2,134 items.
- Lower School students donated a total of 3,222 items.
- Preschool students donated a total of 471 items.
The National Honor Society is so grateful for the school community's generosity and participation in this annual event.
NHS members posted signs and placed bins near all the classroom doors. They then collected the donations with the help of grade-level volunteers and delivered the items to Hopelink’s facility in Kirkland.
In order to encourage donations, the NHS sponsored a contest to see which House and/or class could bring in the most items per capita. In the Upper School, all five Houses earned 1,000 House points for collecting over 25 items per student to help the disadvantaged people on the Eastside. There was enthusiastic participation from all grades: preschool through grade 12.
