Hello Grizzlies Fans,

The Bear Creek Grizzlies had quite a spring, competing at a high level and with great success, winning two individual State titles and one team title. Congratulations once again to John Hayes '18 for winning the 1A Boys Golf State Championship, to his teammate junior Oliver Nordberg for combining to win the 1A Boys Golf Team State Championship, and to junior Olivia Markezich for winning the 1600M event at the 1A Track & Field State Championship Meet.

Emerald City League Honors
Congratulations to the following spring sports athletes who were awarded Emerald City All-League team honors in their respective sports.

Athletics Department Awards
The 2017-2018 Bear Creek athletics awards were announced at the annual Bear Creek Athletics Banquet in April. The Cornerstone Award honors athletes who excel at living out service, leadership, respect, honor, dignity, and selflessness; recipients were seniors Michelle Gasiewicz (soccer) and Ian Levasseur (cross country, track). The Athlete of the Year Awards were presented to senior John Hayes (golf), and juniors Olivia and Andrea Markezich (cross country, track).

Sports Uniforms
Do you have any Bear Creek team uniforms laying around the house that have not been returned? Please drop off all uniforms (in a bag labeled with your child's name) at the Athletics Office in the gym.

Summer Camp
Time is running out, but it is not too late. Sign up for Bear Creek Summer Camp today! There are tons of sports camps to choose from including soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, running, cheer, flag football, and much more!

Fall Sports
Is your son or daughter planning to play a fall sport? Don't forget that the first day of Upper School fall sports practice is Monday, August 20. Middle School sports (for grades 6-8) start on Tuesday, September 4. Schedule your child's physical exam as soon as possible; he/she can't attend the first practice without it! Register online for Middle School and Upper School fall sports beginning Saturday, July 1.

Fall Tailgate and BBQ
We are excited to move this fun event back to a Saturday and have the entire Bear Creek community come out to cheer on our Grizzlies. From 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, the Grizzlies Booster Club in cooperation with PTF will host a fun-filled celebration for all ages on Owens Field and in the gym. In addition to the soccer and volleyball matches, there will be a photo booth, dunk tank, bouncy house, face painting, food, desserts, contests, and more! Your RSVP is appreciated.

Parenting Your Athlete Seminar
Save the date for this important seminar about parenting and athletics. On Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, special guest Pat Bangasser from Proactive Coaching will discuss our role as parents of children who play sports. What does your child want to hear from you during a game? What can you say to your child after a tough loss? How can you best support your child and his/her coaches throughout a season? In addition to our speaker, this Booster-sponsored event will feature an athletics fair with booths providing information about K-5 youth sports in our community, Middle School and Upper School sports at Bear Creek, sports nutrition, and more. Parents with athletes of all ages can register now for this informative (and free) event.

As we head into the summer, I want to thank all of our athletes, parents, and the entire school community for making 2017-2018 such a special year. I know our student-athletes will dedicate hours of hard work over the summer to make next year even better!
