The Bear Creek School

Hello Grizzlies Fans,

Congratulations to junior Olivia Markezich who won a State Championship in the 1600M at the 1A Track & Field State Championships this weekend at Eastern Washington University's Roos Field in Cheney. Olivia, along with teammates junior Andrea Markezich, sophomore Brielle Baker, and senior Ian Levasseur all competed at the meet and put in some great performances.

Olivia and Andrea kicked off the meet on Thursday evening by finishing in first and second place in the 1600M with times of 5:02.41 and 5:06.88. The two jostled back and forth late in the race with Olivia pulling ahead in the final lap. Olivia and Andrea were not done however. After a preliminary race on Friday, Olivia went out on Saturday and took second place in the 800M with a time of 2:18.51, setting a new school record in the process. In the 3200M on Saturday, the sisters ran strong once again, with Andrea edging Olivia this time for second place while Olivia took third with times of 11:04.30 and 11:06.70.

On Friday, Brielle competed in the long jump and had a day to remember. On her third jump in the preliminaries, Brielle jumped 17-00.75 which not only was good enough for a sixth place podium finish but also broke a 15-year-old school record. Ian also competed in the 400M on Friday and finished twelfth with a time of 52.59.

As a team, the girls were able to amass 43 points, which earned them a fourth place trophy. And not to be left out, the boys track team was presented with the 1A Academic State Championship plaque on Saturday for having the highest average GPA. We are super proud of all of our track & field student-athletes and the way they represented themselves this season. Way to go, team!

Go Grizzlies!
