Dear Parents, Hope: Confident expectation. Anticipation. Faith. During the season of advent, our hearts are full of hope. We confidently expect the sun to rise every morning, each time moving us a day closer to December 25. Our taste buds anticipate the sweet treats in store. We have faith that the perfect gift will be wrapped up under the tree on Christmas morning. Civilized grown-ups have learned to keep their anticipation bottled up inside, but in young children the excitement is palpable. As the day grows nearer you can see visible evidence of hope bubbling over through big smiles, giggles, constant chatter, maybe even actual jumping up and down. But the advent season of hopeful waiting is only a picture that points us to the vast hope we know in Christ. Having recently lost my mom, this big hope, the confident expectation that God is real and God is good, that He has come and will come again to bring restoration to a broken world, that He will triumph over death and sorrow, this is a hope close to my heart this Christmas season. Jesus, born in Bethlehem, came to earth to redeem, to bring love, joy, peace, comfort, and hope to His people. I am deeply grateful for the promises we have as followers of Christ and for the opportunity to celebrate together as a community this Christmas season.
