Preschool Update - May 2019
Tressa Parker, Preschool Division Head

Dear Parents,

As the school year winds to a close, I reflect back over a school year that was full of flourishing. Food, water, and spring sunshine brought growth to our garden and to our students. Not only did the children become taller and stronger, their minds stretched as they developed in math and reading, and their hearts expanded as they matured in character and cultivated friendships. It has been a joy to watch your children thrive as they develop into the individual God intends through their preschool experiences!

Authors & Artists: Did you know that your child is an artist? Each preschool student will have art exhibited at Redmond Campus in the Main building on Thursday, May 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Preschool art will be displayed near the stairs at the entrance to the Lower School hallways during this open house-style event. The event also features visual and literary works as well as musical and dramatic performances by students in kindergarten through grade 12. Food trucks will be at the Upper School, so you don't have to rush dinner before joining us at this beautiful evening celebrating the arts.

Cubs Club: New for next year, we are excited to offer an additional Cubs Club class, Bible Buddies. Continuing Cubs Club offerings include Soccer, Gymnastics, Spanish, Dance Discovery, Music and Movement, Sprout with Art, and Lunch Bunch. Cubs Club is an optional Preschool program that lengthens the school day by forty-five minutes and is available from 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Class sizes are limited, and space is offered in each session on a first come, first served basis. The one-time fee covers enrollment for the full school year. Enrollees beyond capacities listed will be placed on a wait list. Registration for the 2019 – 2020 school year opens in July, but you can see all the offerings and learn more about the program by visiting the Cubs Club page on our website.

Last Day of School: Cubs Club ends Wednesday, June 5. Then we will say our farewells with 2-day P3 and 4-day P4 classes wrapping up on Thursday, June 6 and 3-day P3, 3-day P4, and P5 students ending on Friday, June 7. Thank you for a wonderful year!

Summer Play Dates: Mark your calendar for these Wednesdays and join the fun on the playground this summer! Plan to attend the play dates for the class your child will be enrolled in next fall. Snacks and refreshments provided.

School Supplies: In an effort to simplify life for our families, The Bear Creek School has adopted a new school supply model for the 2019 – 2020 school year. Students are asked to bring just a few personal items, and the rest will be provided in the classroom. Check out the 2019 – 2020 Preschool Supply List.

Farewell: We are sad to say goodbye to teachers Lauren Russell and Jenna Harris as they both take the year off to spend more time with their own young children. Classroom assistants Molly Anderson and Becky McNaughten will also be moving on to new opportunities. These ladies have made their mark on Preschool students and families and will be deeply missed. We wish them all the best!

Welcome: We are excited to announce that Rachael Urban will be the new Preschool Division Head next fall. Rachael is well-equipped for work in preschool. She has a B.A. in elementary education from Pacific Lutheran University and an M.A. in education and science from Nova Southeastern University. Rachael has worked at Bear Creek for 14 years and taught sixth grade, first grade, and preschool. Many of you know her from her role in the Office of Admissions where she has served for the past several years. She has a deep love for young children and for our preschool program and is a gifted educator. I will be moving to a new role in Lower School administration, so I will still get to see many of you when you continue your Bear Creek journey into kindergarten!

As we complete these last weeks of school together, I look forward to celebrating our students who have grown in wisdom, compassion, and courage.

Warmly,

Tressa Parker
