Bear Creek Is All for One Supporting Strong Against Cancer
Rev. Jeff Gephart, Ed.D., Dean of Students

Dear Bear Creek Community,

Happy New Year!

This January Bear Creek continues its partnership with Strong Against Cancer (one of Bear Creek's three community partners) to create awareness and raise funds to support the groundbreaking research at the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children's. Our Upper School students lead the charge on this project and will sell purple merchandise through the Grizzly Gear Shop before and after school during the week of January 28 – February 1 with all the proceeds going to Strong Against Cancer. We hope you will consider supporting the cause by purchasing merchandise (capes and masks $10 each, T-shirts $20 each, plus more), making a donation, and wearing purple all day on February 1.

I will speak a message of All for One at Lower School and Early Middle School Chapels tomorrow, January 15 and on Tuesday, January 22 at Middle School Chapel to promote this important Compassion in Action project among all divisions. We will consider how God unites us in the Body of Christ and calls us to care for those who suffer and rejoice with those who rejoice. In addition, the Upper School will build awareness about the breakthrough research happening in immunotherapy and discuss ways to build empathy and advocate for childhood cancer research through our Assembly on Monday, January 28 and House Chapels on Wednesday, January 30. As always, you are welcome to join us for any scheduled Assembly or Chapel; see the school calendar for the meeting times and locations.

Upper School Spirit Week

On Friday, February 1, the Bear Creek Grizzlies will host University Prep for an exciting evening of basketball and the culmination of our Strong Against Cancer campaign and Adopt-a-Grizzly program. Put on your purple gear or your Strong Against Cancer merchandise in support of our cause and cheer on your Grizzlies! If you buy this year’s T-shirt for $20, it will automatically include a suggested donation of $5 and admission to the games.

Another great connection opportunity that week is our All-School Fellowship Breakfast on Wednesday morning, January 30; it will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fellowship and celebrate how God is working among us! Plan to attend with your whole family in the Main Commons from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Please RSVP to help with planning. We'll have Strong Against Cancer merchandise on sale then too!

Look for me at the many events planned. As always, I'll be wearing my purple cape!
