Preschool Update - December 2018
Tressa Parker, Preschool Division Head

Dear Parents,

If you are anything like me, as the calendar marches its way toward Christmas Day, the to-do list seems to get longer instead of shorter. Decorating, shopping, baking, wrapping, mailing cards, attending events... It seems each year our preparations become more complicated. But if you ask our preschool students what Christmas is all about, one simple answer stands out. In spite of multiple readings of the Christmas story and an abstract understanding that we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the truth is, when asked what Christmas is all about, children say “PRESENTS!” And they are right. I am reminded of the following stanza from "O, Little Town of Bethlehem,"

How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given;
so God imparts to human hearts the blessings of his heaven.
No ear may hear his coming, but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still the dear Christ enters in.

Together, as a community, we will celebrate the Gift of Christ during our Christmas program. I pray that in the midst of your own busy-ness you will take time to personally reflect on the great gift of hope, joy, love, and grace offered to us in Christ.

Christmas at Bear Creek
We look forward to celebrating Christmas at Bear Creek with you and your children on Wednesday evening, December 12, at 6:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at the Upper School (8525 208th Ave. NE, Redmond). Please arrive with your child at 5:45 p.m. Parking is limited at the Upper School, but additional parking is available at the Main Building (8905 208th Ave. NE, Redmond). Please do not park on the street and respect all reserved parking spots. There is a lighted pathway connecting the two buildings, and golf cart assistance is available if needed. Links for sharing photos and video are included in The Bear Facts. We are looking forward to this chance to celebrate Christ's birth together and experience the joys of the Christmas season.

Preference Forms
If you have not already done so, please remember to submit your preferred placement for your child in the 2019-2020 school year. Preference information is needed prior to reenrollment so that your child's enrollment contract may be customized according to your wishes. Preference forms are due December 14.

At this free and informative talk, you will hear from our V.P. for Academic Affairs Karen Blankenbeckler about preparing your child for kindergarten. She will share ideas for encouraging growth at home physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. Discover and identify key components that help you know that your child is kindergarten-ready. These events are open to all, so please feel free to invite your friends and relatives who may be interested in this topic.

Passport to Discovery Day: P4 and P5
Mark your calendars for this wonderful field trip on Wednesday, January 23. Instead of bringing your child to Valley Campus for his or her regular class, you will attend class together from 8:55 a.m. – 11:20 a.m. in the Main Building at Redmond Campus (8905 208th Ave. NE). P4 and P5 students will have the opportunity to rotate through science, library, art, and music kindergarten specialist classes. Students will conduct a science experiment, listen to a story, create an art piece, and dance and sing. They will even get to meet one of our current kindergarten teachers. Your child will go from class to class with you and receive stamps in a passport. This will serve as our entire classroom time for this day.

Dads and Donuts
All Bear Creek Preschool dads are invited to visit their children's classrooms.

  • Tuesday, January 15: P3 (2-day) and P5 classes
  • Wednesday, January 16: P3 (3-day) and P4 classes

The event will run from 8:45 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. We hope you can join us for this special event!

May you be filled with hope this Christmas season!
