Preschool Update - October 2018
Tressa Parker, Preschool Division Head

Dear Parents,

Our school year is off to a great start, and we have been enjoying the sights and sounds of fall. As I wander campus, I see delighted learners engaged in classroom activities, enthusiastic children enjoying our new playground elements, and parents living in community and connecting with others. Thank you for all you are doing to support your child, the teachers, and one another. We are grateful for your partnership as we nurture students to grow in wisdom, compassion, and courage.

Preschool Recess Fall 2018

Parent Partner Program Join other parents and support one another on the parenting journey. These events are held in the Parent Lounge on the second Wednesday of the month, and the next session will be held on November 14. Kellie Anderson leads this program, and each class begins with a brief presentation on a particular topic followed by discussion and Q&A. Classes are open to all, so please feel free to invite your friends and relatives who may be interested.

Tools for Success Parenting is hard work, and we all need support as we guide our children through the various stages of childhood. I would like to personally invite you to our annual Tools for Success seminar on Saturday morning, November 3, from 9:00 a.m. – noon. This conference covers a wide range of parenting topics and provides great ideas to support us in this beautiful and challenging role of parenthood.

Register

This year we have many new session topics and exciting speakers. The morning begins with a keynote titled, “More Than Just Another Day of School” by internationally recognized author and speaker Cynthia Tobias. Three breakout sessions follow during which you may choose from presentations on a variety of parenting topics. I will be presenting a session called "Raising Resilient Kids." I am excited to share practical ideas about how parents can give their children tools to solve problems with strength and resilience so they can grow to be happy, capable, and confident. Preschool teacher Kellie Anderson will also be presenting two sessions, “How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk” and “Culture of Competition.” To plan your morning, review the program online at www.tbcs.org/success. I encourage you to invite your friends and family members as well. Not only is this a great time to share and receive valuable information, but it is also a time for fellowship with other parents as we all seek to parent with wisdom, compassion, and courage. Please let me know if you have questions about this event.

  • Wednesday, December 5: Preschool Open House at 9:15 a.m. at Valley Campus
  • Saturday, January 12: Preschool Open House at 9:00 a.m. at Valley Campus
  • Saturday, January 19: K-6 Open House at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Building at Redmond Campus

The Admissions Office appreciates your RSVP for these events.

Conferences The teachers are looking forward to meeting with you during our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences. There will be no preschool classes on Thursday, November 29 or Friday, November 30. Teachers are excited to share about the growth they have seen in your child as you work together in this task of educating the whole child: heart, mind, body, and soul. Be sure to sign up online for a conference with your child's teacher.

School is also closed on Friday, November 9 for Teacher In-Service, and Monday, November 12 in observance of Veterans Day.
