Basketball Update: Required COVID-19 Testing for All Participants - January 2022

Chad Pohlman, Athletics Director

Hello Basketball Families,

I trust that you have had a wonderful Christmas Break, spending time with family and loved ones. As we ramp up to start the second half of the basketball season, there are some very important updates to share.

Required COVID-19 Testing

The WIAA, in conjunction with the Washington State Department of Health, has updated guidelines for all winter sport athletes. Now all participants (athletes and coaches), regardless of vaccination status, will be required to complete a COVID-19 test three times per week. During weeks when we are not in school all five days, we will test participants at least twice.

Bear Creek will conduct the testing on campus and provide all testing resources.

  • Middle School basketball players will test in the mornings just before school starts. Just drop off your son/daughter a few minutes early (so he/she isn't tardy) and have him/her pop into the gym for the test prior to going to class.
  • Upper School basketball players will test during lunch in the conference room (US Room 20).

It is very important that all basketball players complete this required COVID-19 testing on the scheduled dates so that our teams can finish the basketball season.

Testing Consent

In order for students to receive the tests at school, parents must complete both COVID-19 testing consent items for their child in your Magnus Health account.

  • COVID-19 Student Testing Program Consent
  • Atlas Genomics Student Consent Form

If you have not done so already, please complete the two testing requirements on the Student Health Tracker To-Do Lists in the health portal today so your child may participate in testing on Tuesday. Students who are or will be 18 years old during the current school year have an additional requirement that must be signed by the student and uploaded.

Testing Schedule

We are working to formalize a testing schedule for the month of January and into February. Here are the dates when basketball players and coaches will test during the first two weeks of January (just twice each week because they are short weeks):

  • Tuesday, January 4
  • Wednesday, January 5
  • Monday, January 10
  • Wednesday, January 12

Should you not want your child to participate in the required COVID-19 testing and prefer your child to instead step away from the basketball season, please reach out to Lea Hysom ( or me to discuss. Additionally, please direct any questions you might have about the logistics, process, or details to us as well.

We look forward to seeing you all back on campus and for the kids to finish their season strong!

Go Grizzlies!
