The Grizzlies are right in the thick of things as league basketball play continues! We have some very big home games coming up, and we'd love to see your family sporting their green and gold (or purple) and cheering on our Grizzlies as the season starts to wind down!
The schedule for all the upcoming basketball action is listed on the school website's athletics calendar. Additionally, up-to-date standings and scores can be found on the Emerald City League website.
Upcoming Home Basketball Games
All remaining home games will follow the following schedule: JV boys at 4:00 p.m., varsity girls at 5:45 p.m., and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m. JV-C boys vs. Northwest
- Friday, January 18 vs. Port Townsend
- Tuesday, January 22 is Senior Night vs. Bush
- Friday, February 1 is Strong Against Cancer/Adopt-a-Grizzly Night vs. University Prep
Starting the week of January 22, adopted Grizzly basketball players and cheerleaders will visit the classes that have adopted them, while in turn, K-6 students pray for the athletes, speak with them, and write them cards, and draw posters. The program culminates on February 1 along with Upper School Spirit Week and our Strong Against Cancer campaign, and we'd love for your whole family to attend the games! You can support the cause by purchasing the official Strong Against Cancer gear from the Grizzly Gear Shop during the week leading up to this fun event.
The Adopt-a-Grizzly basketball games are on Friday, February 1 as the Grizzlies take on the Pumas of University Prep. K-6 families are encouraged to come out and support their adopted basketball players and cheerleaders and enjoy the games with the larger Bear Creek community.
Burgers With Brock
The boys basketball team is sponsoring Burgers With Brock on Wednesday, January 23, 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., in the Nagel Commons. All Upper School boys are invited to this free event with guest speaker Brock Huard, co-host of the ESPN 710 Brock and Salk Show and host of the podcast Above and Beyond: The Intersection of Faith and Sports, as well as a husband and father of three, and a devoted follower of Christ. He'll join us for some real talk about growing up as young man. Please encourage your son to attend.
Grizzly Gear Shop
The Grizzly Gear Shop in the Main Building is open regularly on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m., but during week of January 28 – February 1, the shop will sell gear supporting Strong Against Cancer and open for extended hours including the lunch hour each day in the Upper School and every afternoon in the Main Building.
If your Upper School student is planning on playing a spring sport, he or she should attend one of the informational meetings on Friday, January 25 during lunch. Upper School spring offerings include boys and girls track & field, boys soccer, girls tennis, girls golf, and baseball. The first day of Upper School spring sports practice is Monday, February 25 (after Mid-Winter Break), and Middle School spring sports begin on Monday, March 4.
Bear Creek Athletics Banquet
If your Upper School student-athlete participated in a WIAA high school sport not offered at Bear Creek (e.g. swimming, football, wrestling, softball, etc.), please contact me. We would like to recognize those student-athletes at the eleventh annual Athletics Banquet where we will honor all 2018-2019 Upper School athletes and teams. This is a really fun night for our athletes and families; look for an invitation in your email in early March. For now, please mark your calendars for Friday, April 26, and plan to attend this special event.
