Varsity Cross Country
Head Coach Carla Darr (firstname.lastname@example.org) is entering her seventh year coaching cross country at Bear Creek. Her philosophy is to instill in each athlete the desire to run with perseverance the race He desires for him/her by providing the mental, physical, and spiritual skill set to accomplish such. Every season has resulted in a trek to state for wither teams or individuals in both cross-country and track and field. Along the way, numerous medals have been earned at many competitive invitationals, with the journey to state resulting in several podium finishes as well for both the boys and girls.
Coach Darr has been a competitive runner her entire life, from racing sprints in her youth to completing ten consecutive Boston marathons decades later. Highlights include victories at the North Olympic, Leavenworth and Black Diamond half marathons as well as the Boston Blowout 30K and Birch Bay 25K; runner up finishes at the City of Trees, Tri-Cities, Burlington and Clarence DeMar marathons; and numerous master’s and age group titles at various distances including finishing first in her age group at Bloomsday. She races for Club Northwest when her body is cooperating. Coach Darr is also USA Track and Field Level 1 certified, works as an ACE-certified personal trainer, and is blessed with being the mother of three amazing children: Cameron, working at an architecture firm downtown Seattle as a recent Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduate; Janessa, completing her Physiology and Spanish majors at UW; and Zachary, working through his sophomore year at King’s High School while on the competitive robotics team.
Assistant Coach John O’Hearn (email@example.com), a competitive runner since 1976, ran throughout high school and then Division III for Clarkson College in Potsdam, New York. He has competed locally for Club Northwest for many years in road races from the 5K to the marathon, on the track from the 800-5000 meter, and as a USATF masters cross-country nationals team member for the past 12 consecutive years (scoring with 11 of those). John has been a Club Northwest board member for the past 10 years and his hobbies include golfing and hiking. He has coached soccer, basketball, softball and golf with his daughter's teams throughout grade school and high school. John and his wife Kerry are proud parents of Keira, a WWU Honors student majoring in Public Policy and being an RA again this fall in her junior year.
