Tools for Success: Prepared for the Launch

Spend a morning in conversation with our academic team about how Bear Creek identifies and nurtures students' passions during the Upper School years (and beyond). Learn how students gain an understanding of who they are, which pursuits bring them joy, and what they can offer to colleges by maximizing academic and extra-curricular activities offered at Bear Creek. Attendees will also hear from a panel of alumni on the impact of a Bear Creek education. There will be time for Q&A. Intended audience: parents and students in grades 5 through 12.

Saturday, December 4

Colleen Murray, Dean of College and Academic Advising, joined the college advising staff at Bear Creek in 2019. She has an extensive background in college and academic advising having served more than two decades in education. Previously, Mrs. Murray oversaw and successfully built college admissions programs at secondary Christian boarding and day schools in California. Mrs. Murray grew up in San Diego, where, as a young girl, she met her next-door neighbor: her future husband, Reid. Now they are empty-nesters to three lovely daughters. She holds a B.A. Psychology and M.S. Counseling, and Pupil Personnel Services Credential from San Diego State University, as well as college counseling certificates from University of California at San Diego and Harvard Institute on College Admissions.

Upper School Dean of Students Kevin Davison's bread is theology buttered with a heavy dose of philosophy, and, consequently, he will happily engage in discussion for extended periods of time. Kevin’s favorite books are: Anthropology in Theological Perspective by Wolfart Pannenberg; On the Trinity (collected works) by St. Augustine, and Dynamics of Faith by Paul Tillich (he doesn’t necessarily agree with everything Tillich says, but that’s not why we read books, is it?). Kevin and his wife have two children. Mr. Davison holds a B.A. Pastoral Ministries from Northwest College and an M.A. Theology and Biblical Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Emily Schuldt, Dean of Academic Advising, began working at Bear Creek in 2010 and has worn a variety of "hats" during her tenure at the school. She loves talking with students and parents about their journeys through the Upper School years and giving guidance for meeting their goals in the years beyond. In her free time, Mrs. Schuldt enjoys drawing, gardening, family history research, and hanging out with her husband and two young boys. Mrs. Schuldt holds a B.A. International Studies from Whitworth University.
