Process for International (Form I-20) Applicants

The Bear Creek School accepts international students to all grades, however, we only issue Form I-20 to non-immigrant students on F-1 visas who have been accepted and are enrolled in grades 9, 10, and 11. Candidates for admission should demonstrate: a successful academic record, diligence, potential to make a positive contribution to our school community, and a desire to live by Christian standards. Note: We do not accept Form I-20 students to grades 8 and below.

See frequently asked questions and answers for further information.

Students who need Form I-20 are only accepted for fall admission. It is best to start the application process beginning October 1. The application deadline is January 24, 2020. All required application items must be received by this date. Depending on enrollment, we may accept applications on a rolling basis after the initial application deadline – please call the Admissions Office to inquire. Application items will not be accepted after June 1.

If interested in applying for admission, please follow these steps:

  1. Let us know you are interested by beginning an application or schedule a tour. Tours for international families are optional and offered by appointment only on most Mondays from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Tours must be pre-arranged. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer tours without a pre-scheduled tour appointment.
  2. Once you have created a username and password, you may log in to the Admission Portal to manage all active applications, add an application, view the status of each required item, and view messages from the Admissions Office. If you have forgotten your username or password, click on the Admission Portal link and select “forgot your password”. An email will be sent to you with instructions.
  3. Sign up for testing:
    • We require applicants to grades 9 – 11 to take the TOEFL if the applicant's first language or the primary language spoke in the applicant's home is not English and the applicant has studied in the United States for less than two full academic years.
      • Register for the TOEFL at www.toefl.org. Our ETS code for score reporting purposes is 0929. We recommend applicants take the TOEFL in October or November.
      • Please note: Bear Creek has a limited ESL/ELL program; therefore, to help ensure student success, we consider applicants with TOEFL scores as follows:
        • Grade 11 applicants: TOEFL score of 90 or higher
        • Grade 10 applicants: TOEFL score of 85 or higher
        • Grade 9 applicants: TOEFL score of 80 or higher
    • In addition to the TOEFL, applicants must also take either the ISEE or SSAT:

Register for the ISEE at www.iseetest.org. Our school code for score reporting purposes is 481705.
      • Register for the SSAT at www.ssat.org. Our school code for score reporting purposes is 1527.
  4. An interview is required. For families living abroad, we may conduct a Skype interview after all other required pieces of the application have been received. If we do not contact you to schedule an interview, no interview is required.
  5. Complete all remaining application items listed on the Admissions Portal by January 24, 2020.

Bear Creek is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant students, is registered with SEVIS, and is authorized to issue Form I-20. Form I-20 is issued after acceptance and receipt of full payment of tuition and fees.

Admission Decision Notification

We strive for a “best fit” between the school and each applicant. Our Admissions Committee reviews each applicant individually once all required application items have been received. Admission decisions for new students will be sent via email between mid-February and mid-March with rolling decisions for late applicants.

Living Arrangements

All students (grades 9 and above) are required to reside with a parent, guardian, or host family while attending the School. Parents are responsible to arrange housing for their Upper School child. The Bear Creek School does not arrange host families. After acceptance, Form I-20 students should contact International Advisor Vivian Hom (vhom@tbcs.org) with any questions they may have regarding living arrangements.
