Lower School Arts Program
Early exposure to our arts curriculum cultivates a depth of personal expression, creative thinking, imaginative communication, and intellectual curiosity.
All K – 4 classes meet bi-monthly with an art specialist and follow a structured curriculum which introduces visual art concepts such as color, tint, tone, shade, texture, line, shape, and space, while carefully observing God’s creation.
Art Docent/Art History
Parent volunteers teach regular art lessons following a curriculum that enhances the classroom curriculum while introducing renowned artists and techniques to students.
Kindergarten and first-grade students perform plays, and second-grade students present a puppet show. Our Shakespeare Immersion Program aims to cultivate in students an understanding of human virtue and frailty by examining the great works of William Shakespeare through stage performance and curricular parallels. In the winter, students in grade 4 perform Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors for their families and friends. All Lower School students attend a dress rehearsal for the grade 4 production.
All K – 4 classes meet bi-weekly with a music specialist with culminating vocal performances at Christmas and Mothers Tea in May.
As part of the general music curriculum, all students in grades 3 and 4 learn to read music and play the recorder. For some students, this is their first experience playing a musical instrument.
