Events and programming

This page describes the regular events and programming of the Office of College Advising. For dates and times of specific upcoming events, please see the College Advising Calendar page.

Student Seminars

The Office of College Advising hosts weekly sessions focused specifically on students throughout high school. Most often, these sessions take place during the school's "Advisory" periods on Monday afternoons. Topics range from academic planning to college touring to graduation and transitions. Seniors and juniors receive the bulk of Advisory contact time, though College Advising does conduct sessions for Sophomores and Freshmen, as well. When urgent content does not fit into the Advisory schedule, College Advising may conduct lunch meetings to cover this important information.

On-campus College Visits

Also called "Brown Bags," these sessions most often take place during the Upper School lunch hour (generally 1205-1235); they may alternately be scheduled during Office Hours (1235-105) or immediately after school (2:55). Typically, college admission offices visit during the fall months.

Off-campus College Visits

Many out-of-area colleges schedule regional visit events at various locations. Often, these are consortium events, with several schools represented in one event. If schools are unable to visit Bear Creek specifically, College Advising encourages students to participate in these events.

Parent Seminars

College Advising sponsors several parent seminars and presentations each year, with topics ranging from parent-to-parent connections to financial aid.

Standardized Testing

College Advising conducts most of the standardized testing for Upper School, including Advanced Placement testing. All college-related standardized tests (SAT, ACT, PSAT, PLAN) are included on the College Advising calendar with online registration links. Registration deadlines are typically 5 weeks prior to the test date.

Bear Creek currently partners with the Princeton Review to offer on campus SAT prep courses in the summer and early spring. Contact College Advising for more information about planned Princeton Review courses.
