About Bear Creek

Nestled between the Cascade mountain range and the Puget Sound, The Bear Creek School is located on the eastside of the greater Seattle metropolitan area, near Microsoft. The campus is in a safe and secure suburban setting.

Bear Creek is a private, independent, college preparatory, co-educational day school for preschool through grade 12. We accept international students to grades 7-11. Middle School and Upper School international students receive an academically rigorous liberal arts education from a distinctively Christian worldview.

We are currently seeking international students from all parts of the world who have strong academic records and are willing to make positive contributions to our school community.

For general information on being an international student in the U.S., see Study in the States.

Application for Admission

We welcome applications for admission from international students. International students may apply October 1 through January 12 for upcoming fall admission consideration. A complete application includes, but is not limited to, the applicant’s TOEFL score and a Skype interview. Please schedule your TOEFL test date early. Learn more about the admissions process for international applicants.

Course of Study

The Bear Creek School's curriculum is a rigorous college preparatory program. See Curriculum. International students at Bear Creek take the same courses as domestic students with the exception of an ESL/ELL class, which all new international students in Upper School must take in their first year at Bear Creek. ESL/ELL is not offered in Middle School.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in the grades 10-12. Scores on the AP exam may be accepted as college credit by many American colleges and universities.

The standard course load is seven classes per semester. The average class size is 18. The Christian worldview is integrated throughout all subjects.

College Advising

College advising is available to all Bear Creek students in grades 9-12. College advisors work with our international students to help them select a list of "best fit" schools that match their abilities and interests. College tours are conducted by our college advisor. The advisor also assists students with the preparation and final review of admission applications to each college. Learn more about Bear Creek's college advising program.

International students who have graduated from The Bear Creek School have been accepted to many fine colleges and universities including, but not limited to: Boston College, Boston University, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, New York University, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers, University of British Columbia, University of California Berkeley, University of California Davis, University of California Irvine, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, University of Illinois, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina, University of Southern California, University of Victoria, University of Washington, Washington University (St. Louis), Western Washington University.

Student Life

Because Bear Creek is a small community, our international students participate in all activities: athletics, fine and performing arts, Chapel, JanTerm, travel and service learning opportunities, community service projects. The school has a thriving International Club which hosts an International Festival each February.

Uruguay Building Bridges Program

Uruguay Building Bridges is a short term exchange program of The Bear Creek School. The program provides visiting students from Colegio Seminario in Montevideo, Uruguay the opportunity to learn about American school and culture by attending high school classes and by participating in field trips to several Seattle area landmarks. Visiting students share their language and culture with Bear Creek students during JanTerm (a two-week mini-semester in January) and the first week of spring semester. This is an amazing chance for students to learn from each other and make lifelong connections and friendships.

Bear Creek was above and beyond what I expected. Every student is passionate about learning and the teachers lead by example."
