Process for International Applicants

The Bear Creek School accepts international students to Upper School (applying to grades 9, 10, and 11). Candidates for admission should demonstrate: a successful academic record, diligence, potential to make a positive contribution to our school community, and a desire to live by Christian standards.

International students are only accepted for fall admission. International students applying for the 2017-2018 school year may start the application process beginning October 1. The application deadline is January 12, 2017. Depending on enrollment, we may accept applications on a rolling basis after the initial application deadline – please call the Admissions Office to inquire. All application items must be received by June 1, 2017.

If interested in applying for admission, please follow these steps:

  1. Let us know you are interested by requesting information about The Bear Creek School.
  2. If you are ready to apply for admission, register for a username and password. Once you have created a username and password, you can log in to the Admission Portal to manage all active applications, add an application, view the status of each required item, and view messages from the Admissions Office. If you have forgotten your username or password, click on the Admission Portal link and select “forgot your password”. An email will be sent to you with instructions.
  3. We require international applicants to take the TOEFL and either the ISEE or the SSAT. We recommend students test in November, December, or early January.
    • Register for the TOEFL at Our ETS code for score reporting purposes is 0929. Please note: Bear Creek has a limited ESL/ELL program; therefore, to help ensure student success, we consider applicants with TOEFL scores as follows:
      • Grade 9 applicants: TOEFL score of 80 or higher
      • Grade 10 applicants: TOEFL score of 85 or higher
      • Grade 11 applicants: TOEFL score of 90 or higher
      • We do not accept international students to grade 12
    • Register for the ISEE at Our school code for score reporting purposes is 481705.
    • Register for the SSAT at Our school code for score reporting purposes is 1527.
  4. If the applicant is not living in the Seattle area, please call the Admissions Office at 425-898-1720 ext. 437 or email to schedule a webcam Skype interview. Bear Creek must receive the applicant's official TOEFL score and notarized transcripts/report cards before the Skype interview may be scheduled. If the applicant is living in the Seattle area, please call the Admissions Office to schedule an on-campus student visit and interview. Skype interview appointments and on-campus visit/interview days fill quickly, so please schedule well in advance of January 12, 2017.
  5. Complete all remaining items listed on the Admissions Portal by January 12, 2017:
    • Confidential teacher evaluations (usually four)
    • Candidate questionnaire and essays
    • Notarized copies of official transcripts (in language of origin and translated in English)
    • Copy of passport
    • Application fee ($50)

Bear Creek is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant students, is registered with SEVIS, and is authorized to issue I-20 forms. I-20 forms are issued after acceptance and receipt of full payment of tuition and fees.

Admission Decision Notification

We strive for a “best fit” between the school and each applicant. Please read our Candidate Profile. Our Admissions Committee reviews each applicant individually. Admission decision notifications for new students are sent by email beginning March 17, 2017.


Tours for prospective international students applying to grades 9, 10, or 11 and their parents are offered by appointment only on most Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Please contact the Office of Admissions via email ( or phone (425-898-1720 ext. 437) to schedule a Thursday afternoon tour.

International Student Living Arrangements

International students in grades 9 and above may choose to live with one or both parents or a host family. Parents are responsible to arrange housing for their Upper School child. The Bear Creek School does not arrange host families. After acceptance, please contact International Student Coordinator Vivian Hom ( with any questions you may have regarding living arrangements.
