Upper School Student Clubs
The Bear Creek forensic team competes as a WIAA sanctioned team in Washington State with individual and partner debate opportunities. Students learn the process of argumentation and debate; the methodology to constructing solid cases and deconstructing an opposing case in a highly competitive atmosphere. It is very common for students who participate in formal debates to be hooked for life, so come join the excitement! Students practice after school and compete November through February. The International Club is open to international and domestic students in the Upper School. The club meets twice a month and plans outings and activities that encourage cross-cultural sharing and learning, such as lunch in the International District, Seattle Mariners games, and karaoke! The major event of the year is “I-Fest” (International Festival), which takes place in February at Bear Creek. Learn more (login required).
Math team competes in local, regional, and national competitions such as Math Is Cool, AMC-10, AMC-12, and AIME, in addition to two year-long competitions, the WAML and the ASMA. The Washington Math League (WAML) competition is a series of six tests with six questions given approximately once a month starting in October. The American Scholastic Mathematics Association (ASMA) competition has six tests with seven questions beginning in October. Learn more (login required).
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is a service organization made up of juniors and seniors who are invited to membership because they have demonstrated outstanding qualities of character, service, leadership, and scholarship. The club participates in service activities throughout the school year including Adopt-a-Road and a food drive for HopeLink. Learn more (login required).
Science Olympiad (grades 7-9) is an after-school science club that meets Wednesdays in preparation for competitions in November, January, and March. Learn more (login required).
Chess Master and Coach Leo Stefurak offers level-appropriate chess instruction to beginning, intermediate, and advanced players in Chess Club every Tuesday morning. Learn more.
