Arts

We believe that a robust arts curriculum is essential. Opportunities to develop personal expression, creative thinking, imaginative communication, and artistic insight are foundational to the arts disciplines in choir, band, drama, and visual art. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of courses or specialize in a sequence that offers greater depth. Thoughtful exposure to the arts develops an understanding of arts in our world and enhances the ability to make deeper connections between the arts, life, meaning, and culture.

At The Bear Creek School, students are creating, performing, and learning how to interpret their world through a sequential arts curriculum taught during the regular school day. As creatures made in the image of God, we all inherit the blessing of creativity. Bear Creek students learn to express the nature of things, the reality of Truth, and the significance of beauty through the arts.

See the Arts Calendar for a list of all fine and performing arts events.

Performing Arts

See the course catalog for more information on each course.

Bear Creek offers performance classes in drama, choir, and sinfonia (band) as well as additional smaller musical ensemble performing groups. Each year Upper School produces two dramas. Typically a play by William Shakespeare is put on by the fall semester class in January. The spring drama production varies; in recent years we have seen adaptations of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (2011), Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist (2012), Fiddler on the Roof (2013), and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (2014).

The Bear Creek School's Shakespeare Immersion program was recognized as an Exemplary School Program by Christian School Education magazine.

Bear Creek’s Upper School choir and sinfonia perform throughout the year at school and in competition. Annually, the groups perform a Christmas concert, a spring concert, and at our Commencement ceremony. Additionally, groups compete each year at the ACSI High School Choral and Band Festivals and Northlake Music Region Choral and Band Festivals. All choir, sinfonia, and jazz band members are eligible to compete in the Northlake Music Region Solo and Ensemble Contest as well as to submit auditions for the WIAA/WMEA All-State and NAfME All-Northwest honor groups. Traditionally, on a rotating schedule, once every four years the groups travel to Disneyland in California to perform and work in studio with Disney musicians, and, once every four years vocalists and instrumentalists team up with drama players to produce a full scale musical production.

Bear Creek students also have the opportunity to perform in smaller vocal ensembles: girls ensemble, mens ensemble, mixed ensemble; as well as additional instrumental groups: jazz band and pep band. Pep band performs at most home and postseason basketball games.
