The 2016-2017 Accelerated Reader program closes on Friday, May 26 at 4:00 PM so we can prepare our reports and tabulate results for the end of year honors assemblies.

On May 23-24 at the 1A State Boys Golf Championships at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, junior John Hayes shot a combined 145 for a fifth place finish. Sophomore Oliver Nordberg placed 21st overall. Additionally, the Bear Creek boys golfers placed fifth as a team. Congratulations!

At the 1A Bi-District Championships held on May 18 and 20 at Woolsey Stadium in Shoreline, the following athletes finished in the top-5. Senior Angela Tzen qualified for State in the 400, and sophomore Andrea Markezich qualified for State in both the 1600 and 3200. The State Track & Field Championships are held this weekend at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
  • Sophomore Andrea Markezich placed 5th in the 1600 (5:12.70 PR) and 4th in the 3200 (11:25.97 PR and SR)
  • Senior Abby Linnenkohl and freshman Brielle Baker tied for 4th place in the long jump (15-05.50 PRs); Abby also placed 5th in the triple jump (34-00.50 PR and SR)
  • Senior Angela Tzen, placed 3rd in the 400 (1:01.51)
  • Senior Ian Levasseur, placed 5th in the 400 (52.71)

The Bear Creek/Overlake Growls won their first game in the regional round of the State Baseball Championships, defeating Monsanto (5-0). The team lost in a heartbreaker to King's Way Christian (6-7) in the State quarterfinals, ending its postseason run. Congratulations on a great season, boys!

This summer the Ida Lairson and C.E. "Ted" Kindel libraries in the Main Building at Redmond Campus will be open Wednesdays afternoons, July 12 - August 16, for checking out books and taking AR tests.

Congratulations to Coach Faris and the Bear Creek boys team who finished in 1st place! Individually, John Hayes (junior) tied for 1st with a 74 and then lost in a tie breaker hole. Oliver Nordberg (sophomore) finished in 4th place with an 81. Jon Campbell (sophomore) finished in 31st place with a 99. Both Oliver and John will be advancing on to State which is next Tuesday. Nice job boys!

The State-bound Growls charged through the Bi-District Tournament which culminated in the championship game vs. Cedar Park on Saturday, May 13. The Growls lost in a nail-biter but have still qualified for State! The next step is a State regional game which will take place on Saturday, May 20 at Castle Rock HS where the Growls will take on Montesano HS at 10:00 a.m. in a loser-out contest.

This weekly publication is distributed to all current parents, faculty, and staff. It is published on Friday afternoon each week when school is in session.
