Advisory
Every student is assigned one teacher as an advisor.  Each advisor has between seven and ten students in a small group.  When these assigned students meet with their advisor, this is called Advisory.  Advisory meets for thirty minutes once a week.  It is an opportunity for teachers to communicate important information about school events, discuss important issues, build valuable relationships, and have fun.

Community Service
The Bear Creek community service program seeks to...

  1. Teach students to imitate the life of Christ through service, and fulfill the Biblical mandate to love your neighbor.
  2. Give students a new up-close perspective of people in need and an understanding of the blessings and amount of resource most Bear Creek students have compared to others.
  3. Instill in students a love of service that will last into their adult years.
  4. Be a witness to people in need and fulfill real needs in the community.

Students are required to complete 100 hours of community service to graduate.  Each year students are required to do a minimum of four Bear Creek hours, four local hours, and two global hours of service towards the total 100 hours needed to graduate.  Students can meet with the community service director to get in contact with recommended local organizations, check how many hours they have completed, and design plans to meet their community service requirements prior to graduation.  There is a community service committee that offers a community service event once per month for students.  Students typically can earn between two and eight hours at these events.  The school holds a community service day in March that sends students to various local organizations in the Seattle area instead of a regular school day. Details about 2008 Community Service Day are discussed in this press release.

Student Council
The mission of the student council is to promote unity in the upper school by representing, leading, and empowering students to live lives in submission to Christ.  The student council is comprised of students elected by their peers and teachers for being exemplary in meeting the standards set by the guiding principles.  The positions are two male and two female representatives from each class, six committee heads, and a cabinet (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary).  The committee heads run voluntary committees that allow the entire student body to participate in the school and the community.  The committees are BASIC (Brothers and Sisters in Christ), Communications, Community Service, Grizzly Pride, Social, and Student Relations.  The council also provides several social events throughout the year.  These include four dances, spirit week, and other events like movie nights, class competitions, and class dinners.

National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is a service organization made up of juniors and seniors who are invited to membership because they have demonstrated outstanding qualities of character, service, leadership, and scholarship.

International Club
International Club is open to international and domestic students in the Upper School. The club meets monthly and plans outings and activities that encourage cross-cultural sharing and learning, such as lunch in Chinatown, visiting Korean church services, attending the Seattle Folklife Festival, and just hanging out and bowling. The major event of the year is “I-Fest” (International Festival). During this special week, the International Club students plan sessions and workshops during lunch for all the Upper School students and faculty. Home-cooked food, handicrafts and media from various countries around the world are on exhibit.

Worship Team
Worship Team is an audition group made up of selected students with musical ability and spiritual integrity. The student-led worship team practices before school and provides music for chapel.

Math Team
Math Team meets most Tuesdays at lunch in Mrs. Graham's room either to practice or compete in one of two year-long competitions, the WAML and the ASMA.  The Washington Math League (WAML) competition is a series of six tests with six questions given approximately once a month starting in October.  The American Scholastic Mathematics Association (ASMA) competition has six tests with seven questions beginning in October.  The math team also provides social opportunities such as the Math Team Christmas party, math puzzle gatherings, the pi-day contest on March 14th, and an end of the year party.

Chapel
Chapel meets on Tuesdays during school, and runs approximately forty-five minutes.  Chapel seeks to encourage students in their faith and challenge them spiritually.  A typical chapel usually opens with worship from the student-led worship team, and has a speaker from the Bear Creek community or a guest speaker.  In the past, Bear Creek has had local pastors, youth pastors, missionaries, Christian business people, Christians that have over come disabilities, and other people that are passionate about Jesus Christ speak in chapel.

Friday Night Fellowship (FNF)
Friday Night Fellowship, commonly referred to as FNF by the students, is a Friday night social opportunity for students.  Students meet at a student's house for food, games, worship, and discussion.  It is nurturing time for students to grow spiritually and build relationships with other students.

Ski Program
For four Fridays in February regular school is set aside, and the school provides an optional ski trip to Stevens Pass.  Students are not required to attend, but most students use this opportunity to fulfill their PE requirements and socialize with other students.  Many teachers attend ski days as well.
