The Bear Creek School

Dear Middle School and Upper School parents and students,

The Bear Creek School provides the opportunity for all Middle School and Upper School students, grades 7-12, regardless of past experience, to learn/improve their skiing/boarding skills. If you have any questions about the 2018 Ski & Snowboard Program at Stevens Pass, please email or call me.

Ski & Snowboard Program

When does the Ski & Snowboard Program begin?
The Ski & Snowboard Program starts Friday, January 5, 2018, continuing on Friday, January 12 and Friday, January 19. There will be no regular Bear Creek classes on those dates for grades 7-12.

Students should arrive at school no later than 7:00 a.m. Buses will load at 7:15 a.m. Buses will pull out from school at 7:30 a.m. promptly. Please be prompt as four fully loaded buses will not be able to wait for late students, even if they are "on the way," so please plan ahead.

Buses return to the school at 7:15 p.m. Parents, please make sure you have arranged pick-up for your child.

Are students required to take lessons?
Lessons are strongly recommended for all students who do not ski/board at an advanced level. Upper School students will receive .25 P.E. credits for attending ski/boarding lessons. (Note: 1.5 P.E. credits are required for graduation.) The lessons have an excellent student/teacher ratio and provide a high level of instruction for beginners as well as advanced participants.

Are students required to sign up for transportation?
No, parents or qualified adults may drive students to the mountain each Friday. Students are not allowed to drive with other students. All students who ride the bus must sign up and pay online using the Bear Creek Ski & Snowboard Waiver and Transportation Form.

How are parents notified if there is a cancellation or delay associated with a Ski Day?
All parents of Ski & Snowboard Program participants must sign up to receive Ski & Snowboard Program alerts through our website. We will use the "alerts" system to notify parents via email and text messaging of any changes in the scheduled program including late bus arrival, cancelled ski days due to weather or road closure, etc. Instructions for signing up for news alerts are located in the Website Demo in the "How to Use Online Resources" folder on the Parent Page.

Are there opportunities to chaperone the Ski & Snowboard Program?
Several faculty members will be attending the ski sessions to assist students. Parent involvement is welcomed and encouraged; please contact me if interested. Chaperones must arrive at 7:00 a.m. to help check off students as they load the buses and will also check off students as they return to the buses at the end of the day. Specific chaperones with medical backgrounds will be asked to be in charge of the emergency book and transport it to and from the mountain each week. Parents who do not ski, but would enjoy the beautiful scenery, are welcome to ride the bus up and be a school contact person in the lodge.

Where do students buy lunch?
Students may bring a sack lunch, buy a lunch at the mountain, or buy a box lunch from Bear Creek Food Services. Lunches purchased through Food Services will be ready the morning of each regular program date. Students should pick them up by the buses. Each lunch will be labeled with the student's name. The cost of the lunches is $24.00 for all three weeks and will be deducted from your family's school lunch account. Submit the online Lunch Order Form.

What is the registration deadline?
Please submit all applicable online forms by midnight on Friday, December 8, 2017. Ski & Snowboard Program registration will not be accepted after the deadline. Please submit your online registration as early as possible! Paper forms are no longer accepted by Stevens Pass.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
